COMPARISON
Complete vs Strava
What is the difference between Strava and Complete?
Strava records and shares your activities, and both are free. Complete is the fitness superapp: every sport counts, and you compete with your friends in all of them. It does all of that, with recording and sharing free as well, and much more: a gym session, a padel match or a yoga class earns points on the same leaderboards as a run, and your rating covers strength and sport too. It starts from your long-term goals, with zones from your own data, a recommendation for each day and a plan when you have a race.
At a glance
Facts about Strava were checked on the date next to each source. Complete is our own app. We wouldn’t build it if we didn’t think it was the best, we train with it ourselves, and we work every day to make it better.

Friends at your level
Complete gives you a rating in each category (cardio, strength, sport, recovery and consistency) plus an overall one. It works like the Elo rating in chess: your number moves with your results, so you can see who is at your level. Leaderboards run weekly, monthly and yearly, among the people you follow, in your city and country, worldwide, and inside clubs.
Roads are Complete’s ladders of targets: 75 of them in 8 families, from running and bodyweight to Hyrox, longevity, and rated sports such as golf handicap, padel level and chess.
Zones, tests and plans
Strava’s help page says its default zones estimate your maximum heart rate as 220 minus age, and that customizing them takes a subscription. Complete builds zones from your own data: it reads the hard efforts in your Apple Health history, and uses an age formula (Tanaka’s, not 220 minus age) only when it has nothing of yours.
Complete also tests you like an athlete. In the app, a ramp test on a treadmill or a 12-minute Cooper run estimates your VO2max, and you can import a lab test. Where it’s available, you can book an in-person running performance test too: today that means Berlin, with our partner PhysioEffekt.
Strava’s cycling plans are fixed four-week plans sent by email. Its running plans moved to Runna, which is not part of the standard subscription. Complete starts from your goals instead: every workout counts, you get a recommendation for each day, and when you have a race it writes the plan and builds the week around the other sports you play.
