COMPARISON

Complete vs FORMD

Which is better, FORMD or Complete?

FORMD is a Hyrox training app that projects your finish time before race day and finds your weakest stations. Complete is the fitness superapp: every sport counts, and you compete with your friends in all of them. It starts from your long-term goals and counts every workout toward them, and when you have a Hyrox race the plan trains the stations as well as the runs. Pick FORMD if a finish-time projection and weak-station work for one race is what you want; pick Complete if Hyrox is one of several things you train for and you think in years.

At a glance

Facts about FORMD were checked on the date next to each source. Complete is our own app. We wouldn’t build it if we didn’t think it was the best, we train with it ourselves, and we work every day to make it better.

What FORMD does well

FORMD’s features page promises that you “Know your projected finish time before race day”, and says its station analysis “identifies your weakest links and creates targeted workouts to fix them”. If a number to aim at and a list of the stations costing you time are what you came for, FORMD is built around that.

It also offers Full and Quick simulation modes, doubles teams and an AI coach, and it lets you run a session from your watch. Its App Store listing shows a 4.8 rating from 113 ratings.

Hyrox lists FORMD among its online training partners, and FORMD’s page there says: “FORMD is the only HYROX app that adapts every session to you.” That is FORMD’s own claim. Complete is not on that list.

How Complete works for Hyrox

Complete starts from the goals you pick when you join, not from a race date. Each morning it reads your goals, your recovery and your recent load (how hard your recent sessions were on your body), and recommends what to do that day. Every workout that reaches Apple Health counts, so the runs, lifts and padel sessions around your Hyrox training all feed the same recommendation.

When you do have a race, Complete writes a Hyrox plan that trains the stations as well as the runs, with brick sessions, where a station and a run come back to back as in the race. We think brick sessions are the best way to train for Hyrox, so we build them into Complete’s Hyrox plans. Hyrox sessions are in its library for you to run when you choose. You can also paste the link to your own official result on results.hyrox.com, and Complete reads only that one link. The Hyrox Roads, the ladders of targets for the race formats and each station, move from those official results.

You can also train without a plan. Train offers a session on any day, and the Coach can suggest an easier day when your recovery is low. You decide.

A Hyrox session from Complete, written out

This Hyrox session comes from Complete’s library, so you can judge the work yourself. It is the first three stations as one block: SkiErg, sled push and sled pull, with runs between. “Race weight” means the sled weight you would use on race day. Effort is out of 10, where 10 is all you have.

BlockWhat you do
Warm-upRun 800 m at effort 3 out of 10. Do dynamic stretches and a few strides first, then ease in over 5 minutes. Never sprint out of the gate.
Main: 4 rounds, in this orderRun 600 m at effort 6 out of 10, controlled, so your heart rate comes down before the next station. SkiErg 500 m at effort 8 out of 10: long, full pulls, and pace it, because the legs you save carry to the sled. Run 600 m, controlled. Sled push 50 m at effort 8 out of 10 with race weight: hips low, drive through the floor, even splits, and do not sprint the first metres. Run 600 m, controlled. Sled pull 50 m at effort 8 out of 10 with race weight: stay low, pull hand over hand, and lean your weight back into it.
Cool-downAssault Bike for 5 minutes at effort 2 out of 10. Easy, low impact.
